Stepping Out with Courage to Our Destination

When you see what God wants you to see, you can do what God wants you to do.

29 Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” 32 In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord your God, 33 who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go. ~Deuteronomy 1:29-33

When we see God correctly, it puts our difficulties in perspective.

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. ~Joshua 1:1-2

“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”

3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. ~Joshua 1:3-5

When we move into our next steps, the challenge is to walk in victory rather than being hesitant.

6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. ~Joshua 1:6-7

When the finish line seems to be out of sight we need to push ourselves through the obstacle that’s in the way.

8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” ~Joshua 1:8-9

When we are able to contend with the challenges that seem to be beyond our strength to handle; at the moment, we can grow.

16 Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.” ~Joshua 1:16 NIV

We will never expand our capabilities until we are pushed to and brought face-to-face with our breaking point.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. 6 So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” ~Hebrews 13:5-8

The challenge that is before each of us is to step out of our comfort zone and reach the destination that God has for us.
