Planks and Specks: Week #1
Don’t be Judgy
Matthew 7:1-6

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Matthew 7:1

Two reasons people judge others:

1. They are jealous

2. They are self-righteous

Judgment = when you size somebody up and then you write them off

Self-righteous people are rarely self-aware people

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2
Three Options we have when judging others:

1. We can judge them angrily
2. We can judge them religiously
3. We can judge them mercifully

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:3-4A Hypocrite = somebody that’s more obsessed with someone else’s sin than their own

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:5-6

If you let other people define you, you will stay defeated
