Master of the Miraculous – Week #5
Miracles in the Storm
Matthew 14:22-33

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.  Matthew 14:22

  • God loves you so much that sometimes He will take something away from you

After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Matthew 14:23

  • Are you intentionally spending time with Jesus every day?

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. Matthew 14:24

  • Some people drive into their own storm

About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. Matthew 14:25

When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” Matthew 14:26

  • Sometimes Jesus takes us through the storm so we can see Him in ways we’ve never seen Him before

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here! Matthew 14:27

  • When we get in the middle of the storm, The Spirit brings in the Word that we need to hear

Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Matthew 14:28-30

  • One of the biggest battles in the Christian life is the battle for our mind

Finally, brothers… whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” Matthew 14:31

  • What could God do in our lives if we just had a little faith?

  • Jesus give me the faith to follow you, even when it doesn’t make sense

When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. Matthew 14:32-33
