Filled with Mercy
Refueled Week #2
Filled with Mercy
Genesis 12:10-20
- Despite the consequences, the place of your greatest mistake is an opportunity to experience God’s greatest mercy
At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner. Genesis 12:10
3 key words- Famine Forcing Foreigner
- A famine will cause us to feel empty and lose focus
- The famine forced them to go to Egypt
- Any time we take our eyes off of Jesus and we look at circumstances around us instead of looking to Him, we will wind up in places that we do not belong
As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!’ Genesis 12:11-12
- When we’re full, we will make decisions based on faith. And when we’re empty, we will make decisions based on fear
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”
Genesis 12:13
- Whenever we walk away from God, and we get empty, we do selfish things that always hurt other people
And sure enough, when Abram arrived in Egypt, everyone noticed Sarai’s beauty. 15 When the palace officials saw her, they sang her praises to Pharaoh, their king, and Sarai was taken into his palace. 16 Then Pharaoh gave Abram many gifts because of her—sheep, goats, cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels. Genesis 12:14-16
- When we walk into “The Devil’s Playground,” we will give up what we want most for what we can have in the moment
But the Lord sent terrible plagues upon Pharaoh and his household because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. Genesis 12:17
- God wants to do a work in us. The enemy wants to do a work on us
- God will always fight for His children
- God does not give up on people
So Pharaoh summoned Abram and accused him sharply. “What have you done to me?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ and allow me to take her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and get out of here!” 20 Pharaoh ordered some of his men to escort them, and he sent Abram out of the country, along with his wife and all his possessions. Genesis 12:18-20
