Empowered by The Spirit

Acts 2:1-4

1. Because of the Holy Spirit we have unity

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Acts 2:1

The devil does not fear a big church, but he does fear a unified church

Five things we have to be unified on:

a. Jesus is fully God and fully Man

b. Jesus was born of a virgin

c. Salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone

d. I’m messed up

e. Jesus is alive and He is coming back

2. Because of the Holy Spirit we have power

Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Acts 2:2

As Samson and his parents were going down to Timnah, a young lion suddenly attacked Samson near the vineyards of Timnah. 6 At that moment the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him, and he ripped the lion’s jaws apart with his bare hands. He did it as easily as if it were a young goat. Judges 14:5-6

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11

3. The Holy Spirit gives each believer Spiritual Gifts

Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.  Acts 2:3

The two metaphors given for the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts are wind and fire

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 1 Corinthians 12:7

Two questions you can ask to help identify your gifting:

1. What do I enjoy?

2. What do I do well?

4. Because of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled

And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. Acts 2:4

Moses told them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Each of you, take your swords and go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other. Kill everyone—even your brothers, friends, and neighbors.” 28 The Levites obeyed Moses’ command, and about 3,000 people died that day. Exodus 32:27-28

There’s a difference between conviction and condemnation

Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:41
