Anchored to My Gifting

Genesis 28:13-15; Matthew 15:29-38

Compassion is a call to action

If compassion is not the foundation for us using our gifts… then our gifts never will be effective

There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28:13-15

We are gifted by the grace of God

Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. Matthew 15:29-31

The church is not intended to be a museum for saints, it’s a hospital for sinners.

The church should care about people far from God and people who care about people far from God

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.” Matthew 15:32

Compassion is the foundation for the miraculous taking place

His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”  “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” Matthew 15:33-34

Two Questions to help you discover your Spiritual Gift :

1. What do I do well?

2. What do I enjoy?

He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.  Matthew 15:35-37

God always gives us more back than we gave Him in the first place

The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.  Matthew 15:38

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  1 Peter 4:10
