The Power Of A Connected Church
1. Connection
- Common Ground
1 Corinthians 9:22b: ”Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”
- Fellowship
Acts 2:42: “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.”
- The Body Of Christ
Colossians 1:18: “Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.
1 Corinthians 12:12 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.”
- Joints and Ligaments
- Healing
James 5:16a: “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Go to God for forgiveness, get to each other for healing. God uses people, but it still comes from God. It’s the process and our obedience that allows us to heal.
2. Discipleship- Discipleship begins in rows but comes alive in circles.
Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
- What starts in a row takes root in a circle.
- Discipleship becomes relational, not just instructional.
3. Protection
- Protection Is God’s Design
1 Corinthians 12:21-26: “21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” 22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. 23 And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, 24 while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. 25 This makes forharmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. 26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
- Life is hard, and we need a group that’s willing to cary us when we can’t walk through it.
-Community
- Meets Needs
Acts 2:44-47: And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple 2 each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity. 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
4. You’re Within Reach
1 Corinthians 9:22b: “Yes, whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him.”
- God changes lives in sermons, but He cements that change in relationships.
- Don’t underestimate the power of common ground.
