A Godly Man
John 2:13-17

Four Qualities of a Godly Man:

1. A Godly man will pursue the Lord

It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. John 2:13

It is a spiritual impossibility to pursue Jesus and to pursue sin at the same time

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

Real men follow Jesus

2. A Godly man will see as Jesus sees

In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. John 2:14

When we see as Jesus sees, we are more likely to do what Jesus says

3. A Godly man will fight when necessary

A Godly man will always stand and put his life on the line for the oppressed, the weak and the marginalized

Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. 16 Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!” John 2:15-16

4. A Godly man will be passionate about what Jesus is passionate about

Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.” John 2:17
